Feeling, hearing and even seeing things that you can't explain? The first thing to comprehend is that you are not alone, and the majority of persons associated with the paranormal field, encountering this paranormal activity at sometime in their life was their driving factor to help other people.
Para-normal: general term that designates experiences that lie outside "the range of normal experience or scientific explanation", or which indicates phenomena understood to be outside of science's current ability to explain or measure.
In the paranormal field there are three basic categories of hauntings. Below is the breakdown:
"Intelligent" or "Human" - In these manifestations the entity appears to posses intelligent or human personalities and may at times appear visually in human forms and interact with people. It is common for the entity to seem to be attracted to the location, not necessarily the structure, but the location and it is even possible to have rearranging of furnishings and/or items within the location. Both disembodied voices (voices heard by a person as they are happening, but seem to be coming from thin air) and EVP's (voices not heard by a person as they are happening and only heard as they are played back on a recording device) are common with this type of haunting. Unexplained distortions or objects on photographs that are commonly refereed to as "orbs"/"globules", which appear generally translucent or whitish in color, although sometimes can appear in faint hues of red, orange, blue and green are also prevalent with this type of haunting.
"Residual" - In a residual haunting, a scene from the past seems to be replayed and is witnessed by a living person (almost like watching a scene from a movie). Apparently this is a form of time-displacement from a former scenario that took place at the site, with the entities rarely interacting with present day items or observers. One of the best places that HGH has witnessed this type of activity is at and around the battlefields of Gettysburg.
Since there is little to no interaction with observers this type of haunting poses little harm to persons witnessing the event.
"Demonic" or "Inhuman" - This type of haunting is the most feared and deals with possessed or hostile nature entities. In most cases there is a form of intelligence similar to a "human" type of haunting and may seem to anticipate the moves of the person(s) it menaces, including investigators or anyone trying to rid the home of its presence. It may feed off and evolve from distress or unresolved conflict on the part of a resident. The most supported belief is that someone originally had to invite the demon into the home, perhaps inadvertently, either through the use of items such as Ouija Boards and or conducting seances.
Electronic Voice Phenomena or "EVP" - A voice not heard by a person as they are happening and only heard as they are played back on a recording device. EVP's come in a wide range of styles and quality. Some are loud and clear, while others are soft and or garbled and may require headphones to hear or audio software to "clean-up". HGH rates all EVP's in a letter based classification system, including A, B, or C. Other Paranormal Investigators go further with this classification, but in our opinion anything under a class C rating is of a quality that could be questioned, therefore we do not use D or G classifications.
Class A - Loud, clear and of very high quality. The voice is easily understandable and does not need enhancement or amplification. Usually, but not always in direct response to a question.
Class B - Somewhat lower quality and clarity of a class A EVP, but is still very audible. May need some amount of enhancement or amplification to be made clearer. The voice may not be totally understandable or there may be a disagreement as to what it is saying. Class B EVP's are not in direct response to a question.
Class C - This is a low quality EVP. With a class C EVP even the best enhancement or amplification may not be sufficient to make the voices audible or clear. There may even be debate whether or not an EVP is actually present.
